The Windows 8 Show: Microsoft Prepares Its Biggest Launch in History

Microsoft has already confirmed that it would unveil the new Windows 8 operating system on October 25, but separate launch events will also take place in several other locations across the United States.

In Houston, Texas, for example, the product unveiling conference will take place at the Microsoft Corporate Office on October 26 (one day after the big launch in New York), and company officials will showcase a live demonstration of Windows 8, Windows Server 2012 and Lync 2013.

What’s more important, however, is that the Windows 8 debut is dubbed “the biggest Microsoft launch event in history,” which does nothing more than to confirm Microsoft’s high expectations when it comes to the newly-developed operating system.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said earlier this month that Windows 8 is going to be a major success in the PC market, despite the fact that it can be also installed on mobile phones and tablets. Millions of copies are very likely to be sold before the end of the year, he said.

“There's going to be close to 400 million PCs sold in the next year, which makes it a big market. And whether it's 405 (million) or 395 (million), it's a big market, and Windows 8 will propel that volume,” Ballmer explained.

Windows 8 is a product developed to suit the needs of multiple user categories, so it bundles a great pack of features. Ballmer says that Windows 8’s launch is at least as important as Windows 95’s and dubs this moment as “the biggest thing in the last 20 years until now.”

“We're trying to really re-imagine the world from the ground up with Windows 8. [...] And then people orient their development schedules around Windows 8 and its new properties and attributes,” the CEO explained.
