Self-Freezing Coke Is Now Available in Hong Kong

Yes, the self-freezing bottle of Coke is a dream no more! The genius of this concept consists in the fact that the bottle only starts to freeze once you've opened it, thus ensuring the freshness of the drink.

This video shows two men buying Coke and other soft drinks from vending machines in Hong Kong that offer self-freezing bottles. Cream soda, Sprite and other drinks are also available in supercooled form.

The explanation for this phenomenon is simple – if the dispenser is cooled until reaching temperatures under 0°C, the liquid in the bottle is also going to be cool. The contents of the bottle cannot freeze, however, until you release the pressure from the bottle by opening it.

One user even comes up with a solution on how to achieve this effect at home. “Get any carbonated drink and put it in the freezer for 3 hours (YES 3 HOURS) then whack it on a counter or desk and watch it freeze,” RagedGoat says.
