Samsung Offers More Info on Its Jelly Bean Upgrade Plans

Today, Samsung started the delivery of Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean to the owners of its Galaxy S III smartphone in Eastern Europe, and also unveiled some more info on its roll-out plans for the platform.

Users in Poland, Serbia, Macedonia and Croatia have already seen the update available for their devices, and it seems that it was also pushed to some users in Romania today.

Moving forth, Samsung is aiming at making the update available to more users in the area, while also planning a gradual roll-out to Galaxy S III devices in other European markets.

However, only unlocked handsets will be receiving the update at the moment, while carrier-branded units are expected to get a taste of it in the not too distant future.

“The availability and schedule of the software upgrade will vary by market and wireless carriers’ requirements,” Samsung said.

The company also confirmed some of the improvements included in the update, such as Google Now, the new Notifications bar, resizable Pop Up Play video window, and the like.

Jelly Bean for Galaxy S III brings along features like:

- With the Easy Mode, users can find 5 large Easy widgets on the home screen which allow quick and easy access to the frequently used applications. The Easy widgets include both 4×2 and 4×4 arrangements of Favorite contacts, Favorite apps, Favorite settings, and Clock and Alarm.

- Blocking Mode adds extra convenience, enabling users to block incoming calls, notifications, alarms and LED indicators for a designated period of time.

- A pause function is added to the camera, so users can record a continuous video while only capturing the moments they want; just like on a video camera, the recording can easily be stopped and resumed.

- Users now can place the upgraded ‘Pop up play’ to watch a video anywhere on the phone’s screen while running other apps, and can change the size of the player window.

Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean is expected to land on other devices from the company as well in the near future. Unfortunately, Galaxy Tab 10.1 was nowhere to be found on the list of upgradeable products.

The list shows GALAXY Tab 2 7.0 & 10.1, GALAXY Note 10.1, GALAXY SII, GALAXY Note, GALAXY Tab 7.0 Plus, GALAXY S Advance, GALAXY SII LTE, GALAXY Music, GALAXY Chat, GALAXY Ace 2, GALAXY Beam, GALAXY Ace Plus, GALAXY mini II and GALAXY S DUOS.

While there’s no specific release timeframe available for the upgrade, it seems that Samsung will rush things up a bit, so that its users won’t be stuck with older software for too long, something that has happened before.
