Political Machine 2012 Diary - Building the Perfect Proto-Skynet Candidate

The Political Machine 2012 has a pretty deep customization mode that allows players to create their own candidates rather than simply choosing from the likes of Barrack Obama, Mitt Romney, New Gingrich or Joe Biden.

The game can be played as a sort of straight up political simulation of the 2012 election, with a lot of simplified elements and some abstractions that are a little too shallow, but it’s much more interesting to image scenarios that seem impossible at first but could become reality within our lifetimes.

I work for the Games section of Softpedia, which means that my interests skew towards science fiction and computers, and that means I just had to create a sort of benevolent proto-Skynet before launching into a quest to become the President of the United States.

My candidate, as you can see in the attached image, has a loveable, charismatic fire kissed face sitting upon a powerful robotic body, clearly designed for winning any contest he enters.

Clearly his intelligence, driven by algorithms, is above that of human candidates but he lacks some experience when it comes to dealing with real-world problems.

This being the first iteration of the SoftBot 1000 there are some problems when it comes to the starting funds and to the overall credibility as a candidate.

The robot nature also affects disposition towards religion and appeal to minorities.

When it comes to the issues themselves, the SoftBot 1000 is ready to support more drone actions, because he is a robot after all, and supports all human based attempts to hurt their own species, from the obesity epidemic to the long-term threat posed by global warming.

My custom candidate might not have the biggest real-world appeal, but let’s see how he can fare against acting United States President Barrack Obama in the November 2012 election cycle.
