Nvidia Tegra 5 Is a 20nm Design That Wont Be Made at TSMC

In a surprising turn of events, word got to us that Nvidia will not use TSMC as an exclusive manufacturing partner anymore. The two companies have been collaborating for more than a decade now, but for some reason, Nvidia will work with other foundries too.

This might not be so much Nvidia’s initiative as it might hint at a possible huge TSMC deal with Qualcomm or Apple that will take up considerable room in the foundry’s backyard.

We know that Apple is looking to ditch Samsung as their main foundry partner and the likely suspects are GlobalFoundries and TSMC, with the latter being the one with a proven track record of successfully manufacturing dozens of different designs using advanced manufacturing.

GlobalFoundries
might move (to 28nm or 20nm) too slow for Apple and thus the Cupertino giant might keep insisting at TSMC’s door.
