Nokia 1002 Concept Device Runs Windows Phone 8 / Windows 8

Phablets, or smartphones with large touchscreen displays, are already available for purchase around the world, providing users with capabilities that are common in handsets, along with a series of tablet-specific features.

Samsung and LG have already launched such devices, and HTC is rumored to plan one for this year as well, but no word from Nokia regarding the release of a phablet has emerged so far.

However, enthusiasts are looking forward for seeing a Nokia phablet pushed to shelves in the not too distant future, and are also imagining what such a device might look like.

Coming from designer Edgar Mkrtchyan (via MyNokiaBlog), the Nokia 1002 is one such concept device, featuring a large 7.5-inch touchscreen display and support for a hybrid, Windows Phone 8 / Windows 8 operating system.

The Nokia 1002 Phablet comes with a 1.8GHz quad-core processor inside, and with a 7.5-inch screen capable of delivering a 1800 × 900 pixels resolution.

On the back, the concept device features an 8-megapixel photo snapper with Carl Zeiss optics LED flash, and full HD video recording capabilities. Moreover, it sports a 3.2MP front camera, which should prove a great option when it comes to making video calls.

The phablet would sport 64 and 128 GB internal memory options, along with a microSD memory card slot to expand the available storage, while also offering some storage space on SkyDrive. It also sports USB On-The-Go capabilities.

Connectivity-wise, the Nokia 1002 features Micro USB 3.0, HDMI port, DLNA capabilities, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, and Nokia AV 3.5, most probably backed by WiFi and Mobile data connectivity.

While the internal specs of this device might look appealing, the outer design is quite impressive.

Nokia 1002 sports a curved body and screen, so as to better fit in the palm of users’ hands and to deliver increased solidity. A pen to expand the input options was also included in the mix.

At the unveiling of their first Windows Phone 8 smartphones, Nokia also said that Windows 8 could provide a great deal of opportunities, which could suggest plans for a tablet PC powered by this OS, thus making the Nokia 1002 Phablet a possible device in its future lineup. For the time being, however, it is only a concept device.
