NEC Intros Energy-Efficient 22-Inch IPS LED-Backlit Display

The market of consumer displays has many suppliers, but the enterprise and professional segment has its own members, not the least of which is NEC, whose latest panel is called MultiSync EA224WMi.

Measuring 22 inches in diagonal, the monitor has, as primary target, corporate, healthcare and government customers, plus those who work in finances.

Thus, though not overly large, it boasts broad compatibility with computers and a build that focuses on power use optimizations.

By broad compatibility we mean that the display connectors are quite varied, with VGA and DVI-D being joined by HDMI and DisplayPort.

As for energy efficiency, the LED backlighting is only part of what allows the MultiSync EA224WMi to run on a maximum of 26W, and no more than 0.43 Watts with the Power Saving Mode turned on.

Just as important are the ambient light sensor (which adjusts the intensity of the backlight according to how bright the room is) and the human sensor (which pushes the monitors into standby if the user is no longer in front of it).

Furthermore, the NEC ControlSync technology allows up to six EA Series displays to form a cohesive whole.

That's about it for the unusual stuff. The rest is par for the course with today's monitors, even though the 16:9 aspect ratio isn't quite what we expected from a professional device (4:3 is usually better for such things).

That aside, the product offers a dynamic contrast ratio of 25,000:1, a static contrast ratio of 1,000:1, a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, two integrated speakers (1W), touch controls (for the image shape, color, etc.), and viewing angles of 178 degrees (both horizontally and vertically).

Sales should start this month (September 2012), for the price of $279, or 223 Euro. This is just the conversion done according to exchange rates though. From what we've seen, prices in Europe are in as many Euro as dollars in the US, so the tag may be of 279 Euro instead, or ~250 Euro if we're lucky.
