iOS 6 Downloaded on 100 Million iDevices

Apple’s iOS 6, launched September 19 as a free software update for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, has been downloaded 100 million times. That’s 100 million installations in just five days.

Apple today announced sales of over five million iPhone 5 handsets in just three days after its physical debut in stores across nine countries on September 21.

The Cupertino, California-based computer giant added that, “more than 100 million iOS devices have been updated with iOS 6, the world’s most advanced mobile operating system.”

One of the key features in iOS 6 is a brilliant Maps application, the brainchild of Apple’s C3 acquisition, which unfortunately performs sub-par for now. Other notable features include Facebook integration, new Siri commands, and enhancements for China.

As for the iPhone 5 itself, it supersedes the iPhone 4S with a thinner design, a bigger screen, better cameras (including better photography software), a blazing fast processor with a reported three graphics cores, and a redesigned dock connector that plugs easier and safer.
