Google Fiber Will Be Deployed to 180 Out of 202 "Fiberhoods" in Kansas City

Google’s experiment as an ISP is expanding gradually, but it's still going to be a while before anyone in Kansas City, where Google Fiber will first be deployed, gets access to the 1 GBps service.

For the past few weeks, Google has been gauging user interest in a bid to determine where in the city to offer the service first.

To get Google to build the infrastructure needed for the TV and internet service, the company asked for a portion of the households of the 202 "fiberhoods" the city was divided into, to pledge a pre-registration fee.

Between 5 percent and 25 percent of the households in those areas had to sign up for Google to start digging. Granted, Google has had to lower the targets as interest wasn't so high in some places.

Still, 180 of the 202 places met their goal so Google will start deploying the service there. The areas with the most interest will get it first.
