Google Docs Users Will Be Asked to Switch to Drive, Nicely at First
Google is ready to make the final switch to Google Drive from Google Docs. Users that haven't yet started using Drive will see a notification the next time they go to docs.google.com informing them of the new home, over at drive.google.com, and of the fact that this new home is now permanent.
For a short while, Google will allow people to still use the old Google Docs, but everyone will be switched over eventually.
The move isn't actually that big of a deal. For the most part, Drive and Docs should be identical. They are identical in fact, on the web, Drive just adds a couple of links and new features, but everything in Docs is still there.
"If you’ve used Docs in the past, Google Drive is the new home for all your files and folders including your Google documents, spreadsheets, and presentations," Google explained.
"This means all your files that were previously stored in Google Docs will now be available in Google Drive. If you haven’t already started using Google Drive, you’ll see a message to try it out the next time you visit docs.google.com," it said.
