FBI Denies It's the Source of the Apple of the Anonymous iPhone Data Leak

A short while ago, an Anonymous group posted UDIDs, the unique identifier of any Apple iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad, along with some user data for one million and one devices.

The data is one of the biggest recent leaks, even though it's not particularly damaging, the hackers said some data has been withheld and just enough was published to prove the point, that companies do little to protect their customers and that the US government is more than able and willing to keep track of millions of Americans.

That last part is probably the biggest in the story, the hackers claim that the data, which may yet prove inaccurate or even fake, was leaked from the laptop of an FBI agent. Not so, says the FBI. The Bureau has finally issued an official statement on the issue.

"The FBI is aware of published reports alleging that an FBI laptop was compromised and private data regarding Apple UDIDs was exposed. At this time there is no evidence indicating that an FBI laptop was compromised or that the FBI either sought or obtained this data," the FBI said. The ball is now in Anonymous' court.
