Dead Rats Wash Ashore by the Thousands on Mississippi Beaches

Following Hurricane Isaac, roughly 15,000 dead rats ended up washed ashore on beaches in Mississippi, causing an incredibly foul smell to take over these regions.

Naturally, ever-increasing concerns are voiced, as nobody can say for sure how this situation will impact on the wellbeing of surrounding natural ecosystems and even on public health.

Faced with this problem, the US Environmental Services hired a company to deal with the clean-up, but one major issue seems to be the fact that such dead rodents continue to show up on these beaches on a daily basis.

As well as this, some of the people sent to these areas to collect the dead animals gave up on their job after quite a short period of time, as the smell was simply too much for them to handle.

According to sources, David Yarborough, one of the persons in charge of overseeing clean-up operations, explained how, “They're separating the bodies from the grass and piling them up. They have equipment today. It's moving. But it's only getting worse. As they're picking them up, they're busting open.”
