Chakra GNU/Linux 2012.09 Has KDE 4.9.1

The Chakra Development Team, through Anke Boersma, proudly announced last evening, September 8th, the immediate availability for download of the Chakra GNU/Linux 2012.09 operating system.

Chakra GNU/Linux 2012.09 is dubbed Clair, and it is dedicated to the memory of Claire Lotion, a KDE contributor. This release includes the latest KDE 4.9.1 desktop environment, as well as the latest LibreOffice and Calligra office suites.

“After the release of Claire-2012.08 well over a thousand packages were updated, including a new sound stack, updated poppler/openjpeg and OpenAl group, KDE-4.9.1, latest Calligra and LibreOffice.”

“Because of all these changes, and to get back to having a release schedule that follows closely to the schedule KDE is using, Claire-2012.09 is following the first Claire ISO rather quickly. It also gives us a chance to fix some issues found in that first release.” said Anke Boersma in the official announcement.

Highlights of Chakra GNU/Linux 2012.09:

· Linux kernel 3.4.6;
· Linux kernel 3.0.35 (optional);
 ·KDE Software Compilation 4.9.1;
 · GRUB2 2.00;
· Qt 4.8.2;
· Added Dharma artwork, including a new theme and wallpaper;
· Added Kapudan, a desktop greeter for first timers with Chakra;
· Improved most of the Chakra tools, like cinstall/cbundle, tribe, spun, and welcome-plasmoid;
· Updated Poppler, OpenJPEG, and OpenAL;
· New sound-stack;
· Updated the latest proprietary video drivers;
· Move to /usr/lib to prepare for systemd switch.

About Chakra GNU/Linux

Chakra GNU/Linux was originally based on Arch Linux but, while some of the underlying architecture and the package manager remain the same, packages from Arch are not compatible with Chakra.
