Bing Is Gaining Significant Momentum, Microsoft Suggests

Microsoft’s Bing search engine is gaining more ground in front of rival Google, Microsoft is suggesting, adding that its service is also better than that of the Mountain View-based internet giant.

With Google still dominating the search market, Microsoft is working on finding ways to accelerate growth, and it has performed a wide range of changes to Bing lately.

Earlier this year, the company debuted a new search results page in the United States and modified Bing’s image search features as well. Furthermore, it also enhanced Bing’s social networking capabilities, to make its use more appealing than before.

At the moment, the company claims that more users performing searches online are, in fact, preferring Bing to Google.

“Although most people identify themselves as Google searchers, an independent study commissioned by Microsoft Corp. shows people chose Bing Web search results over Google nearly 2-to-1 in blind comparison tests,” the company announced.

To prove that Bing is indeed better than Google, Microsoft even debuted a Bing It On Challenge at Bing.com, enabling users to compare Bing and Google search results side by side.

All those who are interested in having a look at how the two archrivals perform when it comes to delivering results for the same search queue should head over to this page and give them a try.

“The challenge is simple — conduct five search queries of your choice and compare unbranded Web search results from Bing and Google side by side,” Microsoft explains.

“For each search result, you choose a winner or declare it a ‘draw.’ Next the test shows you which search engine came out on top and lets you share the Bing It On Challenge with others via Facebook, Twitter and Google+.”

However, Bing is not fit only for desktop users, and Microsoft wants to make sure that we know that. It is the default search engine on Windows Phone 8 and on tablets running Windows 8 too, and it has also been chosen to provide search results for the new Amazon Kindle Fire.

Previously, Bing was selected as the default search engine for some carrier-branded Android smartphones as well, and the deal signed with Amazon appears to confirm that it is indeed gaining momentum.
