Apple Takes Full Blame for Maps Blunder

Apple has no one to blame but itself when it comes to the faulty Maps application introduced at its own hand to replace the more accurate Google Maps. According to an executive working with the Cupertino-based mammoth, they’re throwing everything they’ve got at the problem to make things right.

“We own this; we manage the vendors. This is no one's issue but ours," an unnamed Apple executive told The New York Times.

According to the report, which widely covers the issues behind the new mapping service, the company promises to “pour as much time and manpower into repairing Maps as it takes.”

The report also reveals that Apple believes Maps is still 99 percent accurate, despite its recently-reported shortcomings.

Steve Wozniak, the co-founder of Apple, recently expressed a similar opinion about the service, noting that he didn’t believe it was “that severe.”

Apple recently gave the press a statement of reassurance, saying “We launched this new map service knowing that it is a major initiative and we are just getting started with it. We are continuously improving it, and as Maps is a cloud-based solution, the more people use it, the better it will get.”

“We're also working with developers to integrate some of the amazing transit apps in the App Store into iOS Maps. We appreciate all of the customer feedback and are working hard to make the customer experience even better,” Apple added.

Google is reportedly planning to introduce its popular Street View feature in the web-based Maps interface, allowing smartphone and tablet users to just use the service in a web browser, rather than download the Maps application.

As such, iPhone users would be able to once again rely on Google maps without requiring a standalone download. Nonetheless, the Mountain View search giant is said to be hard at work on a dedicated Maps app for iOS.
