Apple Sourcing iPad mini Displays from AU Optronics and LG Display [Bloomberg]

Bloomberg is calling it a week with a new tidbit reportedly stemming from four Apple connects - the new iPad mini, rumored to be unveiled this October, is getting its display from AU Optronics and LG.

The prominent news agency reports that Apple Inc. has tapped two major display manufacturers to supply the screens for its upcoming iPad mini, which is said to boast a reduced screen real estate compared to the current generation hardware.

The Cupertino, California-based computer giant will reportedly use screens made by AU Optronics Corp. and LG Display Co. “for a smaller version of the iPad to be released in October, according to four people familiar with the plans.”

The same sources reportedly said that TPK Holding Co. and Yeh Cheng Technology, a subsidiary of Foxconn Technology Group, will handle the lamination coating.

Bloomberg’s reporting may sound a tad erroneous as it states that “the device […] will measure 7.85 inches diagonally,” even though most rumors say the screen will measure 7.85 inches on the diagonal, not the tablet itself.

However, the report also adds that “current iPads measure 9.7 inches,” which is the correct specification, but again, for the screen, not the device itself, which far exceeds a point-end of 11 inches on the diagonal.

Although Apple was previously reluctant of developing a tablet PC that fell below the 10-inch spec, the new consensus is that Tim Cook's invaluable company is planning to take over the entire tablet industry with solutions catering to every type of customer.

By introducing an iPad mini created mainly with iPad 2 parts, coupled with the revolutionary iOS operating system, Apple would be able to offer a premium tablet experience at a much reduced price, effectively beating everything that competitors have to offer in both specs, and price.
