Apple Fans Patiently Wait in Line to Get the iPhone 5

The web is now teeming with photos depicting anxious Apple fanatics waiting in line to own the elusive iPhone 5 as early as possible. Australia will be the first country to sell the handset, and the photo above comes straight from Down Under.

Aussies apparently won’t barge at Samsung’s feeble attempts to make a mockery out of waiting in line to get the latest Apple gear.

Sure, many of the customers are hipsters. Sure, some of them are too old or too young in Samsung’s idealistic view of the human being (who does that in marketing, anyway?).

But these people are bound by the same goal â€" to touch Jony Ive’s latest creation.

Per Apple’s announcement, sales will begin at 8 a.m. sharp, local time, in the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and the UK. American customers will pay $199 for the 16GB model, $299 for the 32GB model and $399 for the 64GB model.

iPhone 5 comes in either white & silver or black & slate.

Upon announcing the new handset, Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, said, “iPhone 5 is the most beautiful consumer device that we’ve ever created.”

“We’ve packed an amazing amount of innovation and advanced technology into a thin and light, jewel-like device with a stunning 4-inch Retina display, blazing fast A6 chip, ultrafast wireless, even longer battery life; and we think customers are going to love it.”

Apple touts the iPhone 5 as the thinnest smartphone in the world. It sports an all-new 7.6 mm chassis made from anodized aluminum. This, and many other breakthroughs, made the smartphone 18 percent thinner and 20 percent lighter than iPhone 4S.

“Designed with an unprecedented level of precision, iPhone 5 combines an anodized aluminum body with diamond cut chamfered edges and glass inlays for a truly incredible fit and finish,” Apple says.
