Amazon Is Already Discounting Books from Price-Fixing Publishers

Not so long ago, the US government managed to break up one of the biggest price-fixing deals in recent history, that nobody really cared about. We're talking of course of the evil collusion between Apple and several book publishers, HarperCollins, Hachette and Simon & Schuster, to keep prices up and fight Amazon.

The US Department of Justice didn't like it and sued. The two sides reached a settlement which was approved by the judge only a few days ago.

Ebook buyers in the US will be getting some rebates on some of the titles they bought, but they're also going to see a change a lot sooner than that, Amazon is already dropping prices on some ebooks.

"We are happy to again be lowering prices on a broad assortment of HarperCollins titles," Amazon confirmed what some buyers were already seeing. Price will probably drop for titles from the other publishers soon.

The discounts aren't huge, a few tens of cents, maybe as much as $0.5, but that's not insignificant for the already quite cheap ebooks.
