Amazon Gets Formerly Netflix Exclusives Like Thor and Captain America

The media companies don't like Netflix very much. Sure, they were happy to take its money when they didn't think it was a threat. But things have changed. Netflix lost a few high-profile deals with content providers.

Most recently, it lost exclusivity with Epix, which provided titles from Paramount, Lionsgate and MGM.

Therefore, Epix is shopping itself around to anyone with enough money. No surprise then that Amazon is announcing that Epix flicks are now available via its video streaming service, Instant Video, part of the Amazon Prime subscription.

Among others, this means Amazon subscribers will soon be able to watch all of the Marvel Studios titles of late, published by Paramount, like Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and, sometime next year, The Avengers.

It's not a huge deal, but it signals that, one, there's competition in the online video streaming business, and two, for all their whining, Hollywood studios are happy for a new revenue source.
