World of Warcraft Wont Go Free-to-Play Above Level 20, Blizzard Says

Blizzard has no plans to let its free users advance above level 20 in World of Warcraft, at least according to the one of its representatives, as the studio wants to keep its paying subscribers happy.

World of Warcraft became free-to-play last year, when Blizzard revealed a special version of the game that lets anyone interested in the online title play up to level 20. If they got the game and a valid subscription, then they’d be able to continue playing from where they left off.

Given the fact that most of its competitors are now going completely free-to-play, without any level restrictions, Blizzard has reiterated its stance through the voice of its Senior Producer, John Lagrave.

“We looked at whether Level 20 would give you a good sense of what our game is, and we think it does. There's also a lot of things in the game that are special that we want to reserve for our paying customers," he told CVG.

World of Warcraft’s paying subscribers have decreased considerably but it’s expected that the upcoming Mists of Pandaria expansion will bring back many veteran players.
