This iPhone 5 Shipping Box Is Likely Fake

This image purporting to be the retail box of Apple’s next iPhone is such an embarrassing attempt at creating a stir that we can’t help sharing.

Italian blog Apple.HDblog is highlighting an image discovered on Chinese social network Weibo purporting to show the box in which Apple will ship the iPhone 5. The original image (located here) was then used to create the mockup above, to better assess what the iPhone 5’s retail package will look like.

The box may seem plausible to the untrained eye, but it’s not. First of all, Apple will almost certainly not call it the “iPhone 5,” not to mention that even if it does, it won’t stamp the figure 5 right smack in the middle of the cardboard.

There are two Apple logos on this box, where one Apple logo should actually be the iCloud logo. And the device itself is pictured exactly as the third-generation iPad. Apple does enjoy a good dose of design consistency, but they’d never go this far.
