Nokia Lumia 960 Tab Concept Device Runs Windows 8

Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia is betting all of its money on Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system, but it might also choose to go for the software giant’s desktop platform, starting with Windows 8.

In fact, we have already heard a series of rumors regarding the possible launch of a tablet PC from Nokia with Windows 8 on board, although no official confirmation on the matter has been provided as of yet.

However, if Nokia did plan the release of a tablet PC based on Microsoft’s upcoming operating system, it could easily sport some sort of resemblance with the company’s existing devices.

Designer Edgar Mkrtchyan (via MyNokiaBlog) believes so, and he came up with a concept design representing a supposed Nokia Windows 8-powered tablet PC, called Lumia Nokia 960 Tab.

Rocking a 7 “AMOLED touchscreen ClearBack glass capable of delivering a 1600×900 pixels resolution and protected by GorillaGlass coating, the device would sport the same form factor as the Nokia E7 Symbian phone.

It would feature not only a tilting display, but also a keyboard similar with that of previous Nokia smartphones, which proved rather successful.

The Nokia Lumia 960 Tab concept device also features a quad-core 1.8GHz application processor inside, while running under Windows RT (though dual boot could also be included into the equation).

The specs list of this tablet also includes a 12-megapixel photo snapper on the back, capable of recording videos in full HD resolution and complemented by a 2MP camera on the front for making video calls.

Inside, the concept device features 64/128 GB of internal memory, along with a MicroSD memory card slot which would enable users to add more storage to it. It also sports 2 high quality loudspeakers.

When it comes to connectivity, the Nokia Lumia 960 Tab would have to offer 2 micro USB (USB OTG support) ports, HDMI, DLNA, Nokia AV 3.5, Bluetooth 3.0, and NFC. WiFi and 4G could easily round up the specs list of this device.

The Nokia Windows 8 tablet is only a concept for the time being but, given Nokia’s commitment to Microsoft’s software, we wouldn’t be surprised if the company actually decided to go for such a device in the not too distant future.
