LG Confirms Android 4.0 ICS for Optimus 2X, Optimus Black, Optimus 3D, Optimus LTE and Prada

There have been lots of rumors on whether or not LG will release the long-awaited Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for some of its smartphones.

The South Korean company offered contradictory information regarding some of the devices scheduled to receive the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade.

Android fans who own an LG Optimus Black, Optimus 2X or Optimus 3D have been told that their device will get an ICS update sometime this year, but the handset maker backtracked and said the Optimus Black and Optimus 2X won’t get the upgrade after all.

However, LG recently stated that all smartphones that were previously slated for an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade would receive their updates in the following weeks.

Today, LG Mobile Singapore officially confirmed that five smartphone would get the Android 4.0 ICS update by the end of the year.

“We hear you these recent weeks and would like to share with everyone that our Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) upgrade schedule is set and final details will be announced when they are ready. We are now working to fine-tune the upgrade for a better experience for all our customers. The following models will receive the ICS upgrade in due time: LG Optimus 2X, LG Optimus Black, LG Optimus 3D, LG Prada and LG Optimus LTE.”

Unfortunately, LG has a long history of controversial statements, so we cannot be sure that any of the smartphones mentioned earlier will be getting their ICS update as promised.

In other news, LG plans to launch a superphone in the following weeks. The device is rumored to be equipped with a quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor and will come with LTE support.

According to the latest hearsay, the LG Optimus G will be officially introduced in late August at IFA 2012 trade fair, in Berlin, Germany, so stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
