Kristen Stewarts Cheating Apology Was Huge PR Misstep

Few fans believed Kristen Stewart actually cheated on her boyfriend of nearly 4 years Robert Pattinson with a married man when rumor first broke, but some didn’t believe it even when she publicly apologized for it. This apology could prove a very costly mistake.

The scandal broke a couple of weeks ago, with one weekly claiming to have photos of Kristen and Rupert Sanders, who directed her in “Snow White and the Huntsman,” during a heated makeout session in a parking lot.

The next day, she issued a public apology, in which she practically begged her heartbroken boyfriend Pattinson to forgive her.

It was the biggest PR mistake she could have done, publicists tell The Huffington Post.

“The only thing more stupid than being famous and cheating in public is admitting it and issuing a public apology. Everyone in Hollywood is asking why she confessed to this so fast,” one publicist says.

An editor for a weekly magazine agrees, adding that Stewart’s reasoning in admitting to cheating so quickly must have been that it would put an end to the speculation and the tabloid frenzy.

It did precisely the contrary and she might end up paying the price, says the editor.

“This was career suicide. If Kristen thought the statement would get ahead of the story and suck the oxygen out of the fire, she is wrong. She just poured gas on the fire,” the editor explains.

Indeed, instead of making the story fade away to the back pages of the magazine, the apology only helped keep it on the first pages for longer.

Speculation started as to whether the affair had started while she was still shooting for “Snow White,” as well as about Robert’s reaction to the news.

As for that, reports claim that he was heartbroken and shocked but, more importantly, astounded that she would humiliate him thus by issuing a public apology.
