HTC Confirms All Eligible Devices Will Receive Android 4.0 ICS by the End of August

Taiwanese handset maker HTC has just confirmed that all devices scheduled for an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade will receive the promised update by the end of August.

The company also mentioned a few names in particular, such as HTC Desire S and HTC Thunderbolt, which are expected to receive an Ice Cream Sandwich update by the end of this month.

Unfortunately, HTC had some troubles and hasn’t been able to deliver the highly-anticipated Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update as promised, which is probably the main reason the mobile phone manufacturer has confirmed it’s still on track with the push of the upgrades.

We’re not sure if this confirmation takes into consideration the devices available in all regions or it’s limited to some countries, such as Canada and United States.

According to HTC, its engineers are “still working on getting the updates ready.” Furthermore, they “expect to have updates issues by the end of August for all devices that have been announced.

If nothing goes wrong, we could see Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich updates for HTC Thunderbolt, HTC Rhyme, HTC Incredible S and HTC Desire S by the end of this month.

Even though HTC originally included the Desire HD among the devices eligible for an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update, the Taiwanese company backtracked and said that the smartphone wouldn’t be receiving the upgrade anymore.

In other news, HTC is expected to announce a few new devices a few days ahead of IFA 2012 trade fair, though we’re not sure if these devices will be powered by Ice Cream Sandwich or Jelly Bean operating system.

It would make sense to announce at least one Android 4.1 Jelly Bean device by the end of August, which should hit shelves in fall. Stay tuned for more details on the matter.
