F-Prot Maker FRISK Acquired by Commtouch

Although F-Prot antivirus will no longer be developed by the Icelandic developer, this should not affect its users in any way because Commtouch will continue support for Frisk customers, channel partners and distributors.

According to Commtouch CEO Shlomi Yanai, the development of F-Prot will not cease, on the contrary, the company plans on releasing version 7 of the antivirus shortly after the completion of the acquisition, by the end of the third quarter of 2012.

Among the reasons for the acquisition is the commitment to provide more services and white-labeled applications to the AV market, as Commtouch is also in the digital security business.

The two companies have been working together for over 20 years, as Frisk provided important technology used by Commtouch. It offers cloud-based Internet security services to more than 150 organizations, among which heavy names like Check Point, Google, Microsoft, Panda Security and Webroot.
