Ascension Kratos Will Be Morally Driven, Will Protect Civilians

Despite the image that gamers have created about Kratos, the main character of the God of War series, he will have clear moral concepts in the upcoming Ascension prequel and will go out of his way to make sure that civilians are not harmed in any way.

Mark Simon, who is the lead designer working at the Santa Monica studio of Sony, told Polygon that, “For example, there’s the guy who’s against the wall, and there’s a fire, and in order to get past him Kratos just kills him and moves on. I think what the Kratos in this game would do is, he would try to move around the guy.”

Kratos has war at the core of his own nature and that means that even in the Ascension prequel he has killed a lot of men, but he can still see a difference between combatants and those who are not part of the fight.

Simon added, “the civilians in this case he doesn’t kill any civilian, here. The ones that are killing the civilians are the beasts that he’s fighting against, and we want to get back to that. Because it’s important to know that, like, these guys are terrorizing the workers on this statue. Kratos is going to go in and fight those guys, so in a way he’s more heroic for doing things like this.”

Sony Santa Monica says that Ascension will offer a more streamlined experience than other titles in the series and that it has plans to remake the combat system and to offer QTEs without any prompts.

The game will tell the story of how Kratos is first drawn into his conflict with the Gods and players will see a new face of the character.

God of War: Ascension will be launched exclusively on the PlayStation 3 from Sony on March 12, 2013.
