AMD Promotes Someone for Once

Advanced Micro Devices has been reorganizing its management for well over half a year now, and today is when the company entered one of the rare moments when someone is hired, or promoted, instead of let go.

We're not saying that AMD did not get any new blood ever since Rory Read took the CEO post, we only mean that it hasn't recently happened, not in any noticeable capacity.

In comparison, firing managers has almost become a habit, assuming they don't switch sides.

It also bears noting that AMD hasn't hired anyone new even on this occasion. Instead, it is promoting corporate vice president Darren Grasby to coordinator of sales in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). He will report to John Byrne, the chief sales officer.

"Darren is ideally suited to lead our sales efforts in the EMEA region. He came to AMD with a strong background in PC sales, has distinguished himself as an effective leader at AMD, and is widely respected by our customers and partners," said Byrne.
