Amazon Now Sells the Kindle and One Million Books in India

Amazon has been expanding the Kindle store for a while now and a local version is available in several European countries. But the company is now looking a bit further east, or west depending how you look at it, and is opening a Kindle Store in India.

What this means is that users there will be able to get a Kindle device locally but, more importantly, they'll be able to buy local books with their own currency.

Users will be able to buy the device online, but it will also be available at Croma stores. It's also available on Amazon's own Indian clone Junglee.com.

Amazon boasts that over one million titles are now available in rupees but don't read that much into that because most of them are in English. It's easy to offer one million books that you're already selling in a different currency, though there are a few licensing hurdles to get past.
