Vodafone Australia Halts Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Rollout for Nexus S

Bad news for Samsung Nexus S owners in Australia as the rollout for the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update has been delayed. It appears that the update was halted due to some issues related to emergency calls.

Vodafone Australia announced yesterday the upcoming availability of the Jelly Bean upgrade for the Nexus S, but the carrier backtracked and decided to temporarily stop the rollout .

Unfortunately, the operator was advised that the Jelly Bean update does not meet the Australian regulatory requirements, so it had to delay the push of the update.

“We’ve just been advised that due to a software issue, the roll-out of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update to Vodafone Australia customers has been delayed. It’s been advised the software currently does not meet all the Australian regulatory requirements related to emergency calls.

At this stage, we don’t have any further information on when the roll-out will resume, but as soon as we do, we’ll let you know here on the blog. We thank you for your understanding and appreciate your patience at this time.”

In case the carrier manages to quickly deliver a fix for this issue with the emergency calls, Vodafone Australia may still be one of the first network operators to offer Google’s latest Android 4.1 Jelly Bean upgrade for one of its smartphones.

Jelly Bean platform already comes out of box on the Nexus 7 tablet, but Galaxy Nexus HSPA+ owners also received it in the form of a software update.

Google announced that other Android smartphones will get the Jelly Bean upgrade in the following months, including the Motorola XOOM tablet, Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S.

Unfortunately, Vodafone Nexus S owner in Australia will have to wait a bit more until the carrier successfully addresses the cited issue. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
