Huawei Ascend P1 Goes on Sale in Australia via Dick Smith

Chinese handset maker Huawei plans to release a plethora of Android smartphones this year, but most of these products will reach customers this fall.

Made official back in January at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Huawei Ascend P1 hit shelves in May after several delays.

Today, the folks over at Ausdroid confirmed Huawei’s Ascend P1 was made available for purchase in Australia via Dick Smith brick and mortar stores.

It appears that customers who want to purchase the Ascend P1 will have to come up with $500 AUD ($511 USD or 405 EUR) upfront. So far, no carrier announced plans to offer this smartphone, so there’s no telling whether the Ascend P1 will be available at a subsidized price.

Dubbed as world’s thinnest Android smartphone back in January, Huawei Ascend P1 is only 7.7mm thick and measures 127.4 x 64.8mm. In addition, the handset weighs only 110g (battery included), which makes it rather light.

Huawei Ascend P1 is powered by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, which is one of the phone’s strong points. Furthermore, the smartphone is equipped with a 1.5 GHz dual-core TI OMAP 4460 processor, which us complemented by a PowerVR SGX540 GPU and 1GB of RAM.

It is also worth mentioning that Ascend P1 packs 4GB of ROM, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

There’s also an impressive 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, which features autofocus, dual-LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording, as well as a secondary 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera for self-portraits and video calls.

The Ascend P1 sports a hyper-vibrant 4.3-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display that supports 540 x 960 pixels resolution and features Corning Gorilla Glass coating. Last but not least, the Android phone drains energy from a 1670 mAh Li-Ion battery, which has yet to be rated by the manufacturer.
