Gustav Klimt's The Kiss Is Part of the Latest Google Doodle

Google is celebrating the 150th birthday of Austrian symbolist painter Gustav Klimt with a doodle depicting one of his most famous paintings, modified to fit the common doodle theme, i.e. the Google logo. While that may sound like a bad idea, Google did it rather tastefully and the actual logo is only slightly visible.

Klimt was a controversial figure in his time due to the prefered topic of his paintings, the female body. Google chose one of his tamer paintings for the doodle, the famous The Kiss. The artist used gold leaf for much of the painting giving a very recognizable look.

It may also be the only self-portrait of the painter, though he never clearly labeled it as such. You'll see the doodle on Google throughout the day and all you have to do is click on it to find out more about the artist.
