Google Translate Adds Use Word in a Sentence Feature

Google Translate is always a life-saver. It can come in handy on the web and it's even more useful on a mobile device when visiting a foreign country. While it's great when trying to understand a language you know nothing about, plenty of the times you'll use it to translate from a language you're at least familiar with.

Which is why the latest addition to Google Translate is quite interesting; you now have the ability to check out a translated word or phrase "in the wild," i.e. used in a sentence.

"Did you know that more than 5000 new words are created each year? At Google we’re always curious about new words from around the world, from all languages, and we think one of the best ways to understand and make sense of new words is by observing them in their natural habitat," Google explained.

"Our latest feature does just that by providing you with example sentences taken from fresh new stories around the web," it said.

"To try out the feature, simply type a few words in the left-hand text box of Google Translate, and then click on the example sentence icon," it added.

Google scours the web for examples of the words used in context. That should give you a much better understanding of how the words are used in that language and, what's more, it should also allow you to see whether that is the meaning you were going for, originally. The "examples" feature is already live for everyone.

This ties in nicely with the "alternate translations" feature which enables you to see a different take on the translation to help you find the one that best conveys your meaning or is the best translation for what you're trying to understand.
