Affordable ZTE Kis Android Phone Lands at Virgin Media

UK-based carrier Virgin Media has just added the budget-friendly ZTE Kis smartphone to its Android portfolio. Customers can purchase the handset for only 49.99 GBP (75 USD or 65 EUR) on PAYG (pay as you go).

There’s more to it, as Virgin Media announced it would offer 1GB of mobile data per month over 12 months for free to all customers who grab the ZTE Kis.

ZTE Kis is far from being impressive when it comes to hardware configuration, but we weren’t really expecting any of that given the phone’s low price.

The handset is powered by Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, and given the low specs, we hardly think ZTE will offer an upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich platform.

With the Kis, ZTE has designed a handset that meets customer requirements for a rich Android experience at a very affordable price for pay-as-you-go customers. With plentiful features and an abundance of apps to choose from through Google Play store, the ZTE Kis certainly delivers on that,” said Jamie Heywood, director of mobile at Virgin Media.

Furthermore, ZTE Kis sports a 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports 480 x 320 pixels resolution and a 3.2-megapixel rear camera with 2x digital zoom.

On the inside, the smartphone packs an 800 MHz single-core processor, only 256MB of RAM and 512MB of internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 32GB via microSD card. It is also worth mentioning that ZTE Kis will be delivered with a free 2GB memory card in the sales package.

The launch of the ZTE Kis is a further demonstration of our commitment to building the ZTE brand in Europe and the UK across a number of price points and operating systems, which will continue with new devices throughout the remainder of 2012 and in 2013,” concluded Wu Sa, ZTE UK director of mobile device operations.
