Resident Evil 6 Has Special Crossover Co-Op Mechanic

Capcom has talked about the special Crossover cooperative mechanic that will be introduced in Resident Evil 6 this October, confirming that players can get to certain moments in the story and have their friends join them in a temporary 4-player co-op adventure.

Resident Evil 6 continues the trend from Resident Evil 5 and allows gamers to play throughout the story alongside one of their friends thanks to a 2-player cooperative mode.

In certain moments called Crossovers, however, the player can meet up with other heroes, which can be controlled by other friends.

A specific example was presented on the PlayStation Blog by Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, who said that two players can control Jake Muller and Sherry Birkin through one of the game’s three campaigns. These two characters will meet up in a certain moment of the story with another protagonist, Leon S. Kennedy, and his own companion, Helena Harper.

At this moment, up to four players can work together, not just two.

“The concept of this feature is to have people joining you in real time and seamlessly, so whenever you happen to be at a point where you get to China as Leon, for example, somebody else in the world who’s playing roughly at the same time and they’re also about to get at that point or they’re already there as Jake, he or she will join you,” the producer said.

The system will allow you to change settings and play just with friends, so you won’t be automatically paired up with strangers.

“Of course, if want to play with friends there’s a setting for it, so whenever you come to a chapter or a story section where there’s going to be a crossover, you get a little prompt before that section asking if you want live players joining your game at this point.”

You can also choose to play with AI-controlled characters and forget about going online with your friends during these Crossover moments.

“If you feel like playing on your own or you don’t want to play with a guy you don’t know, you can go with the AI and it’ll be you and three other AI-controlled characters. You can also choose between letting anyone come in or only friends.”

What do you think about this Crossover system? Are you eager to play Resident Evil 6 with up to three of your friends?
