Dead Trigger Creator Says Piracy Cannot Be Stopped

One video game developer has admitted that software piracy is unlikely to ever disappear despite any measures that the industry will try to take to increase protection and punish those who are proven to have pirated content.

Marek Rabas, who is a developer at Mad Finger Games, has stated, “Games are always stolen, there is not much we can do about it. I do not believe that piracy can be stopped. Just imagine if the piracy rate was 9:1 and 10 players played your game. It would be enough to convince at least one pirate user to buy your game and ‘voila!’, immediately you would have double your money.”

He added, “Our main goal is not to make lots of money, we do not want to be the second Disney or sell out the company for millions of dollars. Also, we do not have to please investors each financial quarter with better results on their profit. We just simply enjoy making games.”

Mad Finger Games has recently launched Dead Trigger and has decided to give the game away on the iOS and Android powered devices in order to make sure that players can have access to the game without having to pirate it.

Rabas also believes that platform holders, like Apple, Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo, need to do more in order to protect developers from piracy because the games are what creates demand for the hardware.

Piracy has always been a problem for the video game industry and, at the moment, there are companies that refuse to release their titles on the PC because of it.

The Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and the Wii are also plagued by piracy, but the risk is higher.

Rumors about the next home console generation have suggested that companies will try to introduce stronger Digital Right Management measures.
