Twitter Adds Age Verification for Alcohol Related Profiles

Twitter is a great way for brands to connect with fans and for everyday folks to connect, or at least follow, celebrities and their ilk. But all this following has to have some limits, Twitter is now making it harder to follow alcohol brands, at least in the US, by asking users to verify their age.

Just like every other age verification system on the web, asking people to submit their age and then trust that they're not lying is sure to work wonders.

Twitter teamed up with BuddyMedia for this. Now, users that want to start following several brands, like Brown Forman’s Jack Daniels (@JackHoney), Jim Beam’s Skinny Girl (@SkinnygirlCKTLS), and MillerCoors' Coors Light and Miller Lite (@CoorsLite and @MillerLite), they'll get a DM asking for their age.

Users that are legally allowed to have a refreshing beer after a hard day at work, or school, are then directed to a page where they can submit their age. The move should allow alcohol brands to start advertising on Twitter without breaking any regulations or laws.
