Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Has Different Hooks to Attract New Gamers

Namco Bandai is working hard on making its upcoming Tekken Tag Tournament 2 fighting game a great experience for both old fans of the series and for new players who are going to be attracted by some of the title’s different “hooks”, according to the developer.

The fighting game genre has been seeing a renaissance in recent years as quite a lot of classic franchises have made a comeback across platforms like the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, or even PC and mobile devices.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is the next big fighting game and we already heard quite a bit about some of its more outlandish marketing campaigns, including a pre-order bonus stage starring famous rapper Snoop Dogg or another bonus that gives all characters in the game bikinis.

These extra items allow the game to attract the attention of new players, according to Tekken team leader Katsuhiro Harada.

"We tried to add several different kinds of hooks," Harada told GamesRadar. "One of them was Snoop Dogg, to appeal to people who wouldn't normally play Tekken – a more casual audience – and we got the desired affect with that. The swimsuits were just another hook to appeal to a different crowd.”

Besides these special pre-order bonuses, the game also has various other tactics to please fans, including a special mechanic for the Wii U version of the fighting title.

"There are going to be some modes that will be interesting, because they are very Nintendo-like," Harada said. "Some of this was shown at E3, where a mushroom drops down and Heihachi eats it and gets bigger. You know Nintendo fans hearing and seeing that just exploded with excitement."

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is out on September 11 in North America and September 14, in Europe, for the PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms.
