Re-Organized SEGA Offers Better Support for Total War: Rome 2

Total War: Rome 2 might be a little more than an announcement and a couple of images at the moment, but the developers working at The Creative Assembly believe that SEGA is changing in order to make sure that upcoming high-profile releases deliver both in terms of quality and sales.

Rob Bartholomew, who is the brand director for Total War working at the developer, has stated, “It's a tight family at Sega, so any talk of restructuring and refocusing is always a difficult time in any business and we're always kind of mindful of that.”

“We're already seeing evidence of that improved support, that idea of really getting behind those IPs and really making the most of them,” he continues.

The executive says that there are more than 200 people currently working at The Creative Assembly and that people are still being hired, both for the Total War titles and for projects dealing with other SEGA properties.

Rob Bartholomew also highlights one of the problems for Total War: Rome 2, saying, “we find that people take us for granted a bit really, 'oh Creative Assembly, another 90+ games, that's great news.'”

“So it's actually quite challenging to push ourselves forward and get people to take notice of us and kind of say 'yeah, we are actually a pretty big deal,'” he concludes.

The first Total War video game was launched during 2000 and was set in Japan.

The mix between turn-based top-level strategy and the tactical battles was a hit from the start and since then The Creative Assembly has applied the formula to medieval times and the Napoleonic era before going back to Japan with a new engine and a new focus on characters and their development.

Total War: Rome 2 is currently set to launch during 2013 on the PC and also has a focus on big historical decisions and their consequences.
