Plextors M5 Series SSDs Launch Tomorrow with Impressive Performance

After impressing most SSD enthusiasts with its M3 Series SSDs, Plextor is now getting ready to launch the new M5 Series of drives. The M5 Series are powered by the same 88SS9174 Marvell controller just like the previous product line.

The new series will be manufactured by Philips & LITE-ON Digital Solutions (PLDS)Taiwan, but it will use Plextor designed firmware and will come complete with Plextor’s useful SSD software tools.

There will be two models presented in the launch day: one with 128 GB of Micron-made NAND called PX-128M5S and one with double the capacity called PX-256M5S.

It seems like Plextor has chosen Micron as the new NAND provider for its new M5 Series instead of Toshiba that made the flash chips used in the well-known M3 Series.

There is no clear info on the pricing yet, but the first benchmarks look impressive and you can check them out in the gallery.
