PlayStation Classics Support Coming to PS Vita in Firmware 1.80

Sony has confirmed that it will finally add support for “PlayStation Classics” titles (aka PlayStation 1 games) to the PlayStation Vita handheld console this summer with the release of firmware 1.80 for the portable device.

The PlayStation Vita received quite a lot of games since its release at the beginning of the year, but things have slowed down in recent months.

In order to keep players interested in the platform, Sony revealed at E3 2012 that PS1 games would soon be available for download on the portable device.

Now, as part of a conference in Japan, Sony confirmed, via Andriasang, that PS Classics support was going to be included in firmware update 1.80 for the Vita.

The new software will hit consoles this summer, at least in Japan, so expect to hear a more concrete launch date for the firmware in the near future.
