New HTC Desire Proto Smartphone in the Works - Report

It appears that HTC made a promise earlier this year and stated that it will no longer build low-end devices. The company confirmed this statement several times in the past few months.

Although the company decided to focus on releasing only mid-range and high-end products, smartphones like Desire C makes us wonder if the Taiwanese company has a different idea of how a low-end device might look like.

All in all, word is that HTC is currently working on a new mid-range smartphone, which is expected to be launched on the market sometime this year.

The folks over at Stuff, citing source close to the matter, claim that a new HTC Desire phone, codenamed Proto, is in the works.

The good new is that the upcoming HTC Desire smartphone will have improved hardware in comparison with HTC Desire C.

For example, the HTC Proto is said to be equipped with a 1 GHz dual-core processor, which will be complemented by 768MB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory. Further expansion of storage will be possible up to 32GB via microSD memory card.

Moreover, this Proto device will sport a much larger 4.0-inch capacitive touchscreen display that will support 480 x 800 pixels resolution and 16 million colors.

On the inside, the smartphone will pack a 1650 mAh Li-Ion battery, a microSIM slot, Beats Audio technology, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi support, as well as a 5-megapixel rear camera with autofocus and LED flash.

Software-wise, the HTC Proto will be powered by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, integrated with HTC Sense 4.0 user interface.

The unannounced smartphone is expected to be launched in the UK by the end of the year. The HTC Proto smartphone is likely to be available for free on select plans. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
