Mozillas Login System Gets Some Customization Options

Now that the transition to the Persona name and brand is complete, Mozilla is ramping up announcements about the product, it seems. Or it may just be a coincidence. Whatever the case, developers integrating the unified login/authentication system formerly known as BrowserID, can now have the name of their sites show up rather than the URL, in the login frame, and even add custom logos.

"One of the features we’ve added to Persona’s new Observer API is the ability for websites that use Persona ('Relying Parties') to add their name and logo to the login screen. To do this, just add a siteName and/or siteLogo property to your navigator.id.request() call," Mozilla explained.

You can check out the announcement if you're interested in the nitty gritty, i.e. technical details. For regular users, it's a reminder that there may come a time when you won't have to you use your Google or your Facebook account just to create a profile on some site or web app. That time is not now, though.
