Mozilla Persona, the Google and Facebook Challenger, Is Here

Mozilla's identity and authentication project, which aims to provide an alternative to Google, Facebook and so on, is moving along and has now just "moved" into its new home, login.persona.org, more fitting to its new branding.

The project started out as BrowserID, but was later renamed Persona, a better suited name.

Mozilla had to change the name of an existing feature, the lightweight themes dubbed Personas, to do it. But the transition process is almost over and Mozilla Persona is good to go.

"This is one big step in preparation for our Beta Launch in mid-August. If you used BrowserID before today, you will automatically inherit the new look-and-feel, and everything will continue to work for your users without interruption," Mozilla explained.

The project has been in testing and development so far, but it's going to be interesting to see how it does once Mozilla puts its marketing muscle behind it and starts promoting it.
