Makeup Artist Takes Stand Against Domestic Violence with Chilling Video

Makeup artist Lauren Luke is just one of the many offering easy tips and makeup tutorials to women online. She, however, is the only one to use her skill to raise awareness on the delicate issue of domestic violence.

Mrs. Luke was handpicked by the group Refuge from the UK to tape a PSA which is actually a mock tutorial on how to cover up bruises inflicted by a partner the night before.

You can see the video below, embedded at the end of the article.

Of course, the bruises and the cuts she's trying to hide are fake but that doesn't make the message less impacting: 65% of women who suffer abuse at the hands of their partners usually go to great lengths to cover up any physical trace of it.

“I'm not feeling 100% today so I've done a video on how to look your best the morning after.
Sorry if I'm not me usual perky self but the look turned out great and I think it's perfect whether you're off out or just staying home with your other half,” Mrs. Luke writes in the description of the video.

Speaking with AdWeek (via the Daily Mail), the makeup artist says she wanted to do the PSA because she relates to these women, having experienced a form of abuse herself.

“I had a bad experience in the past with a previous boyfriend. He never physically hurt me but I did sometimes fear what would happen next if I said the wrong thing. He could be overprotective and embarrass me in front of my work colleagues or friends because of his aggressive behavior,” she says.

“Sometimes it was like living with a volcano which could erupt at any second – I felt I was walking on egg shells just to keep him from exploding and smashing something across the room,” Mrs. Luke says.

Below is the video. It's disturbing but it does drive the message home.
