Although Nokia dropped MeeGo like a rotten apple, the mobile platform has been recently picked by Finnish company Jolla. This independent company was founded last year by a team of former Nokia employees.
Last week Jolla announced plans to continue to support MeeGo users and improve the platform’s overall performance.
Moreover, the Finnish company promised to launch its first MeeGo-based smartphones, though Jolla has yet to unveil the exact release date of these new products.
In this regard, Jolla has signed a “Sales and Distribution” agreement with D.Phone Group, one of the largest mobile phones retail chains in China.
“We see great potential for Jolla as a new player in the Chinese smartphone market with Jolla’s fresh and unique user experience. Together with Jolla our aim is to reach significant sales volumes,” said Mr. Donghai Liu, founder and CEO of D.Phone Group.
Both companies hope to reach significant sales volumes in China’s 150 million smartphone market. Under agreement, D.Phone will start sales and distribution of Jolla smartphones in China through the retailer’s network of over 2,000 retail stores.
Those who are not familiar with D.Phone Group should know that this is China’s largest chain retailer of mobile phones and accessories.
The company’s retail stores cover 2,000 outlets across the country. It is also worth mentioning that D.Phone is a long-time partner of China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom carriers. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
