The Human Element Will Interact with Real World

The first title from Robert Bowling and his Robotoki team will allow players to interact directly with the real world in order to collect a number of resources that they will then be able to use in the game.

The Human Element will include versions for a number of mobile devices that will communicate constantly with the core game, offered on next-generation consoles and on the PC.

Robert Bowling, who is the former creative strategist on the Call of Duty franchise, tells Games Industry that, “Say you're at home, you're playing Human Element, you're out in the world, you get injured. You're hurt and you need medical supplies.”

“You don't want to risk going out to forage in the game world, or maybe you did and can't find anything, but you know that there's a pharmacy four miles down the road in the real world,” he adds.

He then goes on to say, “So you go out and you're out and about in the real world. You open up Human Element on your iPad. We're overlaying the world of Human Element onto the Googlemaps API, FourSquare business API, we're taking your real world and merging it with your game world.”

It’s not clear whether the bonuses obtained via the mobile version of The Human Element will also be obtainable from an item store or via an alternate gaming mechanics or players will be forced to use the real world in order to progress.

The multiplayer side of the game will also feature a sharing mechanic, allowing one player to obtain resources on one platform and then move them to another who is engaged in the competitive layer of the experience.

Robert Bowling surprised many gaming fans by leaving Infinity Ward in order to create his own studio, but so far The Human Element seems to be one of the most innovative titles linked to the next generation of consoles.
