Facebook Engineer Breaks Imgur Sharing, Becomes Reddit Hero

For a while earlier, Facebook blocked all links coming from Imgur, the popular photo sharing site. While Facebook at large would have hardly noticed, Reddit, which uses the service extensively, surely did.

The block was by mistake and was soon fixed, but the Facebook engineer responsible for the problem did more than just fix it, he owned up to it on Reddit and explained how it happened.

"Hey folks – so this is actually my fault. Literally, I’m the guy who accidentally blocked imgur for a brief period of time today. I’m really sorry," Facebook engineer Matt Jones said.

He went on to explain that Imgur was blocked while trying to adjust the system designed to catch and block malicious links shared on Facebook. False positives tend to happen any time you're dealing with a security issue.

Needless to say, Reddit was quite impressed with this. Not so much the explanation, but the photo of his dog dressed up for the 4th of July, which Jones offered as compensation.
