Brothers in Arms: Furious 4 Has Evolved, Might Be Released in 2013

Randy Pitchford, the boss of independent developer Gearbox Software, has talked about the eagerly-awaited Brothers in Arms: Furious 4 shooter, confirming that it’s still in development, although it won’t make its 2012 release date because it’s being reworked into a better experience.

Gearbox Software is working on quite a few projects with different publishers, from Borderlands 2 for 2K Games, to Aliens: Colonial Marines for Sega.

Among them, as we heard last year, was also Brothers in Arms: Furious 4, in collaboration with Ubisoft.

While we heard quite a few things about the interesting shooter last year, Gearbox has been silent in recent months, leading many to speculate that Furious 4 may have been shelved or canceled.

That’s not true, according to Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford, who revealed to CVG that he’d be able to share more details about the game later this year, as the whole project is evolving in new ways.

"I'm looking forward to being able to talk about Brothers in Arms: Furious 4 soon," Pitchford told CVG. "The game has evolved, I think people are going to be surprised by what they'll see, and it's still evolving. One of the reasons why we're not talking about it now is that it's evolving and we need to make further changes before we can start talking about it."

As of right now, however, Gearbox is focusing its resources on Borderlands 2, which is out in September, and on Aliens: Colonial Marines, which is supposed to appear in February, 2013.

"I can't really talk about Furious Four right now," he added. "Borderlands 2 ships in September, so we're spending most of our time talking about that, and Aliens Colonial Marines comes out after that in February. I might come around to talk about Furious Four between the releases of Borderlands 2 and Aliens: Colonial Marines, but certainly I won't before the release of Borderlands 2."

Brothers in Arms: Furious 4 was revealed back at E3 2011 by Ubisoft and was set to deliver a different kind of experience than previous titles in the shooter series, focusing more on outlandish characters that are fighting in unconventional battles during World War II.
