Verizon Starts Delivering Ice Cream Sandwich to Motorola XOOM

Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless has started the roll-out of a new software update for its Motorola XOOM devices, providing users with the full set of features that Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich has to offer to them.

The new update began arriving on XOOM tablets on June 4th as software IMM76L and is being delivered over the air. It weighs 107.9 MB.

Following the update, users will take advantage of a new, customizable Launch Bar, a Notification Pop Up Box, the possibility to manage various settings of the device from a single place, and the option to create folders for fast access to apps and other destinations.

Additionally, the new software update will provide users with a series of other improvements across the device, including better 4G connectivity and enhanced stability.

The new software will also bring changes to the device’s camera, enabling users to launch it from the lock screen, and it will also arrive with a single motion panorama mode. The Gallery application will sport a photo editor.

Other changes include updated widget controls and optimized widget size, a new system of fonts, better screen rotation response, and improvements to the Mobile Hotspot connectivity.

The release notes for Motorola XOOM’s Android 4.0.4 upgrade also include:

- Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) policy improvements
- EAS security and sync fixed
- Optimized EAS setup
- Enhanced Client Conversions with EAS
- Email search now available
- Improved email folder ordering

The new firmware will be delivered to users in stages, which means that not all of them will receive it at the same time.

However, those who would like to upgrade their devices before the wireless carrier makes it available to them can find the necessary files, along with details on how to perform the upgrade, on Droid-life.
